OcelotsNashville's best kept secret. They came to Cincinnati in the freezing cold to record, locking themselves in at Candyland for a long weekend. What resulted was a blast of Minutemen-era proto punk infused with melody, hooks and smart lyrics. The EP, Satan's Darts, is the band's fifth release and their debut on Tiberius. The band did a limited run of custom-packaged, screenprinted hard copies, which they have for sale online (ocelotsofrock.com) and at shows. Tiberius is handling the release digitally (Tib 023). Of course if you'd like a hard copy, you may contact us as well.
Bio:
Ocelots played a show in Nashville a while back and, in his review, a local music blogger referred to their drummer as an "under-the-radar genius." While I can appreciate his enthusiasm, it seems like a pretty heavy title that might have been used a bit too casually. But I started to think about the music of Ocelots and realized it might be a more fitting term than I first thought, not just for the drummer but for the band as a whole. Ocelots is not a showy band. They're not the kind of band that will do back flips and vomit on stage. Their music doesn't shout at you or try to get under your skin for some kind of undue notice. They don't cry for attention but they demand that attention be paid if you really want to know what they're about. The secret to Ocelots is in the subtleties. Sure, there are catchy vocal melodies but if you listen, the melodies created by the guitar or bass are just as likely to get stuck in your head. The beats might make you want to dance but it's the accent of a cymbal or bass drum that ties the song together. The vocals are fun to sing along with but then there's that one lyrical image that makes you dissect the rest of the song. Like the 80's SST bands, Ocelots make Punk smarter; they makes choruses memorable like the bands of the 90's Alternative boom and challenge the listener to define popular music like the Indie Rock bands of today. It's a careful balance between accessible and independent that makes it hard to fully capture them with a label. But it has to be pretty special for anyone to attach the label "under-the-radar genius." Of course that was also the show when a guy named "Slick," who was from L.A. and claimed to have put the Go-Go's together, told them they could be the next big thing if they'd just have lunch with him. So maybe it was just a good night.

Bio:
American rock 'n' roll has retreated to the depths of the underground. For the bands that continue the time-honored tradition of smooth talking swagger and stiff lipped cool, they exist only in the eyes of the people who have discovered their clandestine reverberations. Cincinnati, Ohio's native Buffalo Killers, who have toured with the likes of the Black Keys and the Black Crowes, struts with the moan of a blues-laden trio who mix vintage tone with growling guitars to formulate passionate testimonials of lost love, desperate aggression and reckless endangerment. It is the underbelly of American rock 'n' roll, and with the release of their sophomore album, "Let It Ride," the Buffalo Killers have been hatched upon the age in a time of desperate need. Sleek in a tattered way and possessing a ferocious assault, the Brothers Gabbard (Zachary – bass and vocals, Andrew – guitar and vocals, joined by Joseph Sebaali – drums) have channeled a wrinkled, raspy-toned muse who was too purposely intoxicated to catch the train of trend. This is a story about defiance and destiny, the snarling moan of a scene crawling beneath the bustling avenues. (JamBase) Tour dates:

AmplineThe end of Summer will usher in the release of You Will Be Buried Here. The fifth release from Ampline in twice as many years marks a stark departure from their solely instrumental beginnings. Having initially enjoyed certain liberties in regards to song structure by not having to worry about framing music around traditional verses and choruses, the band eventually began to use the subtle presence of vocal snippets to help steer listeners' thoughts. On You Will Be Buried Here, that 'subtle' approach has been thrown out the window. They are not shy about tacking the 'concept album' tag on this one. Seventeen tracks culled from two and a half years of writing and touring explore the interrelation of man, nature, industry and theology. From mine collapses to the labor movement, from Dos Passos to Tesla, the songs weave a narrative of death, decay, invention and 'progress,' metering the growing gulf between corporal and spiritual. The band tracked the core of the album live at Candyland, their studio/practice space in Cincinnati, OH throughout 2009. They recorded, mixed and mastered it themselves with Montgomery at the helm. Cameron Cochran (the Sheds, Lions Rampant, Pop Empire) worked the tape machine on a few late nights, also lending his voice and keys to a handful of tracks. Artist Derek Toebbe painted the cover while Jerry Dirr (Phratry Records/ Knife the Symphony) handled the layout, printing and production. Jason Ward cut the plates for vinyl at Chicago Mastering. This release will be available on CD and Vinyl from Phratry Records (Phratry 023) and Tiberius Records (Tib 022) and digitally through Tiberius. To celebrate, the band will head out West for a string of shows with their buddies in the surf band Daikaiju in late August with a local release show at the Southgate House in Newport, KY on Sept 4. They'll follow this up with a voyage overseas to steep in the rich traditions of Europe with their friends in Atomic Garden. More dates tba soon
Alone at 3amErstwhile singer/songwriter Max Fender and his bandmates are excited to announce the completion of their full-length follow up to City Out of Luck. The new long player, Cut Your Gills is ripe with heart wrenching tunes of love gone wrong, traveler's tales and organ-led vamp ups. New drummer Chris Mueller lends a sturdy hand to the rhythm section, freeing the rest of the band to dip their cups in varied pools of influence. Fans of Tom Petty, Chuck Ragan and anyone who's ever said "fuck you" to loneliness are sure to feel right at home here. The album will be released in a couple of months by Tiberius and Mueller's own offspring, Sofa Burn Records. Prepare to be smitten.
